Lab Puppies
There's this really cute story that some of my friends know about how I never got to make carpets. I was in boarding school in 6th grade, and all the other girls in my dorm were older, so they got bigger allowances than me, so one day they could all go out and get themselves little latch hook carpet making kits. They looked so happy and friendly, sitting there in the dorm livingroom, on the floor, making them. I couldn't get one because my allowance was only $3 a week, and I couldn't afford it. I was sad.

But I got over it, tranfered schools, lived my life happily. It was my then-8-year-old brother who suggested a latchhook carpet kit as a present for me for Christmas one year. I was just extatic when I opened it! I remembered all about how I couldn't have one in 6th grade.

This is it. I'd made it in the following year. My mom had finished it by sewing canvas on the back. It lies in my room now, in front of my bed, and it's very soft. My feet like it very much.

I love latchhook! I've got a kitten-design latchhook half-finished, but it's tucked away in storage so I can't work on it. >_<

Funny, but it's quite hard to find latchhook kits out here. Most people seem to be into crossstiching. I find that a bit too fiddly. Give me great hunks of yarn and a hook you could murder small animals with, I say! ;D

*cough* Speaking of small animals, that's a cute buncha puppies. >.>;;

I love cross stitch! But you won't see any cross stitch stuff out of me for a few years at least... I kinda took on a cross stitch project that was a little bit on the large side. ;)

Mmmm murdering small animals. Sounds like FUN ;) *goes to college* *lots of squirrels there* *wonders how many squirrels it takes to make a furcoat* ;)
Tanglestania on July 5th, 2004 12:19 am (UTC)
About three campuses worth of squirrels, in my expert opinion. ;)
Maria Korchaginyllafairy on July 5th, 2004 12:33 am (UTC)
but that would be over three thousand squirrels!
Tanglestania on July 5th, 2004 12:46 am (UTC)
Well, yeah, but when you're using a latchhook to hunt the little buggers, you gotta take pelt damage into account. >.>;
Maria Korchaginyllafairy on July 5th, 2004 12:49 am (UTC)
oh, no, you HUNT them with something more... substancial, let's say ;)

you just kill them with the latchhook ;)

Let me check my craft box. Hmmm...

Pencil darts? Blind 'em with bottled ink? Oh! I know! Drop a sewing machine on 'em from great height!

The possibilities are endless. I must go raid grandma's artillery. Enjoy your nuts, little aquirrels... they will be your last. ~_~

;D

Such a cute story. ^O^ And adorable puppies, too~ <3 *wishes she had talent for things like that*
Maria Korchaginyllafairy on July 4th, 2004 11:18 pm (UTC)
awww, hun, it doesn't take talent ;) at all. Just sitting down and doing it.

But it's neat how it turns out in the end, a picture 'n all. And something I made. Something unique (even if it's from a kit ;)

Now if I could only finish all the OTHER such things that I've started ;)

I remember my sister and my friend Amanda were on a latchhook kick awhile back... I don't know how far they got on theirs.

I have so many things half started... cross stitch and crochet and the like... I always end up rationalizing it away that I shouldn't spend time working on them because they aren't deemed important (as in, for someone else who is waiting, or for money that I need).
Perhaps, though, I will make it a goal to finish one of those projects when I'm back from AC and done with commissions... there is something very relaxing about the rhythmic motions of crochet and cross stich, and the fact that you know what it should look like when it's done. It would be a good occasion to let my head rest ^^

It made me happy to read your story tonight... I enjoy hearing about memories like that.

when I'm back from AC and done with commissions

*snort* oh sure... like that ever happens ;)

it is very soothing though. i can sit in front of the tv and do this... and on one hand, i'm not agonized by sitting in front of the tv "wasting time" (since i am accomplishing something!) and i'm also not doing something that's completely repetative and monotonous ^_^ it's great. i love mindless crafts like that ^_^

err... maybe it's cause i can't do the mind-ful crafts to save my life O.o ^_^;;

*snort* oh sure... like that ever happens ;)

Yeah, I know... :\
I'm going ot come back from AC with a list of NEW commissions to do, and hopefully they'll work up faster while I'm still in Con-mode (I'm going to work on whatever sketches and such I can get done before I even leave the con)... and then I'm going to have to finsih any other outstanding orders... and then I think i'll take a break form the commissions gig for awhile, especailly if I'm going to be looking for a real job. I'll just work on the trades I owe people and stuff for myself then... wait... when did I think I was ever going to have time?

I swear it's stuff like this that turns people into psycho stalker/killers.

well, if you ever get psychotic tendencies (well, in the next two months), i'm only a short drive and a 40 min Metra North ride away ;)
